- Ham-Com is much more than a Hamfest!
The DX community’s well-planned agenda of speakers and forums drew record
crowds. Over 4,000 people typically attend the two-day event. Ham-Com is one of
Amateur Radio’s “must attend” events. Many interest groups make our line up of
programs and feature events big attractions for diverse groups of Amateur Radio

- DX, one aspect of the hobby of being a
Radio Ham, is an abbreviation for "long distance" and is used as a noun (DX
= long distant station; DXer = one who pursues DX) and a verb (DXing = the
pursuit of DX radio contacts). The enthusiasm of DXers is exemplified by the
frequent DXpeditions by Hams, in which operators venture to some corner of
the earth that may be uninhabited, lacking Radio Ham activity for the
primary purpose of providing the rest of us with radio contacts! Some are
true expeditions in the classical sense, in which equipment, shelters,
generators, and supplies must be carried in at great personal cost and risk.

Years
ago I bought the A&A Engineering QRP Transceiver Kit featured in QST
magazine. This is the kit designed by K9AY. I still see these rigs appear
from time to time on eBay so I know there are a few still around. I have
good copies of the manuals that came with this radio that I can provide to
you. The copies are available in PDF format.

How
about building your own
Ham Radio equipment? Here I share with you many low power "QRP"
transceivers I have built and use regularly and they are very very
affordable! Amateur Radio doesn't have to be a Rich Man's hobby. Beside,
building your own gear is very rewarding, educational and just plain fun.
